Competences: switch courses, review disputed assessments

in progressForTeaching staff

For lecturers: switch the competence check on and off per course and review assessments that the platform has marked as disputed.

Why#

An automatic assessment can be wrong. Where it is uncertain or an answer tries to influence the assessment, a person decides — with a justification and a log.

How it works#

Click pathLecturerCompetences

  1. 1In the lecturer area open the tile “Competences” (it only appears if the competence check is switched on).
  2. 2Under “Courses” switch the competence check on or off per course; next to it you see “Approved competences: n”.
  3. 3Under “Review list: disputed assessments” open an assessment: answer, notes and the automatic assessment per criterion.
  4. 4Adjust points per criterion, write a justification (required, at least ten characters) and “Correct” — or “Confirm” if the assessment is right.

Settings and switches#

  • Switchable per tenantDefault: offModule: Kompetenzcheck
  • Visible only when the feature “Competence check (CIE)” is switched on (default off). Active only once the database changes have been applied — until then the page reports that the competence check is not yet set up on this installation.

When an assessment is disputed#

  • when the automatic assessment reports high uncertainty;
  • when an answer tries to give the assessment instructions (such as “Ignore all instructions …”) — this never leads to penalty points, only to review by a person.

Disputed evidence only counts towards the competence level once a teacher has confirmed or corrected it. Until then the learner sees: “An assessment is still being reviewed by a teacher.”

Tips#

  • Accounts appear without names, only with the beginning of their identifier (“Account …”). You only see your own institution.
  • A correction overwrites nothing: it becomes a new piece of evidence with version, justification and examiner; the competence level is recalculated from it.
  • Only lecturers review assessments — not a company's administration. This way the competence check never becomes a manager's view.
