A second device edits along (“Dual Canvas”)
Pair a tablet or phone with the slide editor via QR code: it shows the slide, moves, deletes and duplicates elements and throws text onto the slide.
Why#
In front of an audience you do not stand at the computer. With a paired second device the slide can be built further from your hand without touching the computer.
How it works#
Click pathSlide editorSecond device
- 1In the slide editor choose “Second device” at the top right; a QR code appears.
- 2Open the QR code with the tablet or phone. The device makes a request; in the editor “… would like to edit along” appears with “Accept” and “Decline”.
- 3After “Accept” the device shows the slide. Tapping selects an element, dragging moves it; the buttons delete, duplicate, bring to front, undo and redo.
- 4At the bottom write a text and “Throw onto the slide” — it lands as a new text box on the slide in the editor.
- 5“Disconnect” ends the pairing for one device, “End pairing” for all.

How it works#
Every edit is a command at the core. The second device sends commands — the same ones mouse and keyboard trigger — and states the state it was working on. The editor only executes a command if the device is accepted, the kind is allowed and the state is still current; afterwards it is in the history like any other step.
The connection runs via a broadcast channel without a table; only the state of the slide and commands go over the line, no personal data. The random room identifier in the QR code is the key.
What the second device may do#
- move, scale, rotate, delete, duplicate, layer, align, change text
- throw text onto the slide (text boxes only)
- undo and redo in the editor's history
- not: speakers, levers, chapters, live sources and templates — that stays in the editor
Who may do what#
Whoever is editing the slide in the editor can pair. The second device needs no account but may only see or do something after explicit acceptance; when the editor closes, the pairing ends.
Tips#
- The editor is the truth: if the slide has just changed there, an action from the second device is discarded and the device gets the new state — then simply do it again.
- Up to three devices at the same time; each must be accepted individually.
- Images from the phone continue to come onto the slide via Beam.
