Interactive slides: levers, sliders, scenarios
Sliders and levers on the slide change everything bound to them live — numbers, bars, markers, colours, visibility. Operable while presenting with mouse, finger, keyboard, from the phone, by voice and with gestures.
Why#
A slide with key figures should not only show but answer: “What if the contribution margin falls?” Instead of a second slide you move the slider — break-even tile, marker on the timeline, payback period and footnote move along.
How it works#
Click pathCourseContentSlidesEdit largeInsertLevers & sliders
- 1In the slide editor under “Insert” → “Interactive” → “Levers & sliders” open the panel.
- 2“+ Lever”: define name (for formulas), display name, minimum, maximum, step, start value, unit and format; the slider next to it shows the value immediately.
- 3“+ Formula”: derived quantities such as “breakeven = kosten / db” — the value is shown live next to it, errors (e.g. circular reference) in red instead of a crash.
- 4Select an element on the slide → in the design bar “Bind to lever” (or in the panel “Bind selected element”) → choose the property → set expression and mapping.
- 5“Insert control” (slider, rotary knob, plus/minus, toggle, choice chips, number field) or “Insert chart” (bar, line, pie with expressions as data points).
- 6Scenarios: “Current values as scenario”, rename, mark as plan with ★; “Back to plan” leads there. Scenarios cross-fade softly.
- 7Quick start: template “Business model (interactive)” — key figure tiles, timeline with break-even marker, sliders and scenarios.
- 8Presenting: operate sliders on the slide; in the presenter view the lever console has all sliders, scenarios, undo, voice command, camera gestures and “Phone as remote control” (QR code).
Settings and switches#
- Switchable per tenantDefault: onModule: Kurs-Studio
- Switchable per tenant (feature “Interactive slides”, default on). Off: slides show their saved values, nothing is operable, the “Levers” panel is missing, the phone page does not respond.
- Part of the module “Course Studio”.
Levers and formulas#
A lever is a number with a range and a grid (e.g. contribution margin 200–900 €, step 10). Formulas calculate further from it and may build on each other. A formula that needs itself by a detour is reported as a “circular reference” — the slide then shows a warning sign instead of a number, nothing crashes.
Formulas are never executed as program code: a small calculator of its own knows only numbers, names and the functions listed. A guard in the code ensures this.
Renaming a lever carries through everywhere: formulas, scenarios, bindings, controls and charts.
What can be bound#
- Text with placeholders (numbers visibly count along when changing)
- Position left/top — e.g. a marker on a scale between minimum and maximum
- Width/height — bars and progress bars
- Rotation — pointers and gauge needles
- Opacity and visibility — show or hide from a threshold
- Fill, text, background and border colour — as a gradient between two colours or with a threshold (below X red, otherwise green)
- Font size and border width
- Emphasis: the element pulses while a condition holds
Mappings: “Value directly”, “Range → range” (e.g. 136 … 1,400 participants → 10 … 90 % of the slide width), “Gradient”, “Threshold”.
Presenting live: console, phone, voice, gestures#
Every operation — slider, console, phone, voice command, gesture — is the same command at the core of the editor. That is why there is “Undo” everywhere, and audience window, presenter view and phone show the same state.
Phone: in the presenter view choose “Phone as remote control” and scan the QR code. The phone needs no sign-in; the random address is the key. Only lever names and numbers are transmitted.
Voice: recognition via the platform's EU service; without it there is no fallback to another service. Camera gestures: only after being explicitly switched on, evaluated only in the browser — no image leaves the device.
Limits#
- At most 24 levers, 40 formulas and 8 scenarios per slide; expressions up to 500 characters.
- PPTX and PDF export show the saved state as a still image.
- The camera only recognises the fist with the hand model on its own server; without it, up, down and swipe work.
- Fellow learners in “Live co-learning” see the slide with their own sliders, not the presenter's values.
Tips#
- Placeholders in text: {{breakeven|≈0}} inserts the value; after the bar the format — “0 €” (7,500 €), “≈0” (≈ 310), “T0 T€” (172 k€), “1 %”, “/10” rounds to tens, “+0” shows the sign.
- Formulas: + − × ÷ ^, brackets, min, max, round (runden), round up (aufrunden), round down (abrunden), abs, square root (wurzel), clamp (begrenzen), sum (summe), mean (mittel), if (wenn(condition; then; else)), comparisons, and/or/not.
- Voice (button “Speak” in the console): “contribution margin to 600”, “fee plus 50”, “costs minus 10 percent”, “scenario ambitious”, “back to plan”, “undo” — in German and English.
- Gestures: hand up/down changes the selected lever, swiping selects the next lever (then the scenarios), fist holds, open hand releases. On the screen: drag vertically with two fingers or swipe horizontally.
- Nothing is saved while presenting: the values apply until “Back to plan” or reloading. Values set in the editor are saved.
