Mobile in the browser
The whole platform on phone and tablet — without installation: slide from edge to edge, a bar for the essentials, a control ring for everything else, in portrait and in landscape.
Why#
People learn on the go. On a small screen the slide has priority; the speaker becomes small, the controls move into one button, and nothing covers the content.
How it works#
Click pathCourseControl ring
- 1Open the institution's address in the phone's browser, sign in or use trial access.
- 2In the course the slide runs from edge to edge; the speaker appears as a small bubble (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1 The course on the device: slide from edge to edge, the speaker as a small bubble, at the bottom the transport bar. - 3At the bottom the transport bar with five controls: previous slide · 10 seconds back · play/pause · 10 seconds forward · next slide.
- 4Everything else is opened by the round button at the bottom right — the control ring: one tap fans out the functions, each with icon and word; a tap next to it, Esc or the X closes it.
- 5Turned to landscape, the bar becomes a small pill that can be dragged anywhere by its handle; the slide fills the height.
- 6Enlarge and move the slide with two fingers; the back button restores the starting position.
Settings and switches#
No switch of its own in the feature catalogue — the feature belongs to its surroundings.
When the platform is “mobile”#
- narrow — up to 767 pixels wide,
- or low — up to 520 pixels high (a phone in landscape),
- or a tablet in portrait up to 1100 pixels wide.
Everything else counts as desktop: then with header, footer bar and large speaker. An automatic guard checks these rules and the position of the controls.
What changes on the phone#
- The desktop header and footer bar disappear; a narrow header only appears in portrait.
- The speaker bubble is small (96 pixels) and carries no control block.
- The column is borderless; in landscape the slide fits the height instead of a narrow column.
The mobile preview#
Under /g-uds-demo/mobil a course is shown in a frame with the dimensions of a phone (390 × 844) or tablet (768 × 1024) and scaled down to the screen. Rotating swaps width and height. A workshop course starts there as a preview in the student view — without author tools, nothing is published.
Tips#
- In the campus the mobile preview shows every course in a phone or tablet frame, portrait and landscape — the player lays itself out there exactly as on the device.
- The browser remembers the position of the pill per course; it always stays in view.
- Subtitles can be switched on at the speaker bubble; bubble and subtitles never land on the bar.
