What-if: try it yourself, with a comment
Learners move the sliders of an interactive slide themselves and, on “What does this mean?”, hear the matching pre-produced comment of the avatar on their scenario.
Why#
Experimental learning: what happens to the labour market, contributions and economic output if the retirement age rises but many leave earlier? The slide recalculates — and the avatar puts the chosen setting into context: what it shows, what to keep in mind and what it can trigger.
How it works#
Click pathCourseContentSlidesEdit largeInsertLevers & slidersComment cases
- 1In the slide editor open the “Levers” panel (Insert → Interactive → Levers & sliders) and create levers, formulas and sliders — or choose the template “Pension reform (what-if)”.
- 2In the section “Comment cases” add a case with “+ Case”: title, condition (e.g. rentenalter >= 70 and frueh > 30), priority, spoken text and, if desired, a speaker of the slide. Below the condition it says live whether it matches the current values.
- 3“Add fallback “otherwise””: the comment when no case matches.
- 4“Check cases” calculates a grid across all slider ranges and reports combinations that only end up in the fallback, and cases that never apply.
- 5“AI: suggest cases” delivers four to eight cautiously worded cases from the slide content and levers — as a suggestion. Only “Accept selected” changes the slide.
- 6“Videos of the cases”: select cases, check the estimated compute minutes, “Order videos” and “Yes, order”. Publish first and approve the slide.
- 7In the course: above the slide there is “Try it yourself” (with a short hint on first appearance), next to it “Back to starting values” and “What does this mean?” — the avatar speaks the matching case, with subtitles.
- 8Presenting: in the presenter view the lever console contains “Comment on this scenario”.
Settings and switches#

- Switchable per tenant (feature “What-if with comment”, default on). Off: no “What does this mean?” in the course and in the presenter view, no “Comment cases” section in the editor.
- “Ask the lecturer about your scenario” is a feature of its own (default off): an answer marked as AI with the set values as context.
- Part of the module “Course Studio”.
What happens on a click on “What does this mean?”#
From the values the learner has just set, the core of the editor calculates the matching case — always the same: same values, same case. A faulty condition never matches; it never brings a wrong comment.
If the finished video of the case exists in the language of the voice, it plays in the avatar bubble with subtitles; the slide pauses meanwhile and continues afterwards. Otherwise the course voice speaks the text — with a fixed maximum per session, the same text coming from memory.
Only which case was triggered and how it played (video, voice, text) is recorded — as a learning event. The slider values are not stored.
The template “Pension reform (what-if)”#
Four sliders: retirement age (63–75), share retiring early, employment rate of 60- to 74-year-olds, skilled immigration. From these: labour force, skills gap, contribution rate trend and a rough GDP effect, plus a bar chart of what each lever contributes.
The formulas are explicitly a simplified learning model, not a forecast — this is stated on the slide and in the footnote with all assumptions. Six comment cases and a fallback are worded cautiously and factually, without party names.
Tips#
- Cases are checked by priority (higher first), on a tie in list order; the first matching case wins. So specific cases get the higher priority.
- Conditions know the same signs as formulas: comparisons, and/or/not, min, max, clamp … and read levers as well as formulas.
- A changed spoken text makes the case's video “outdated”. It stays until it is explicitly ordered again — nothing is re-rendered by itself.
- Without a finished video the course voice speaks the case's text live; once the session's quota is reached, the text appears as subtitles without sound.
