Doctoral procedures from registration to the awarded degree — each stage only once the previous one has been reached and the required documents are in the file.

Why#

A doctoral procedure has many stages and participants. The committee sees, per procedure, what a stage is still missing; doctoral candidates see their status and the next step.

How it works#

  1. 1Doctoral candidates: in the campus open “Studies” → “My doctorate” — the steps of the procedure, what is due “next” and the history (Fig. 1).

  2. 2Doctoral committee: open “Doctorate”; for each procedure “Record document” (a milestone is done) and “Next stage” (Fig. 2).

The stages and what they require#

  • Registered — the committee checks admission requirements and supervision.
  • Accepted for the doctorate — next, the supervision agreement and exposé belong in the file.
  • In progress — requires the supervision agreement and exposé; progress via milestones (e.g. interim report).
  • Dissertation submitted — requires the submission.
  • Reviewed — requires the first and second review.
  • Defence passed — requires the defence.
  • Completed — requires publication; only then is the degree awarded.
  • Cancelled — reachable from every running stage.

The publication obligation is the reason why the degree is not already awarded with the defence.

Tips#

  • There is deliberately no shortcut — not for the administration either, and not “just for testing”. A procedure that can be skipped proves nothing.
  • Cancelling is possible from every running stage: withdrawal must always be possible.
  • Without a recorded procedure, the doctoral candidate's page explains how it starts: with acceptance by the doctoral committee.
