Operations & Administration (Control)
Administration: overview, bar and tools
The home page of the admin back end with tiles, the bar of all administration pages and the tools overview with running counts of open items.
Why#
One look should be enough to see where something is open — and one click to get there. At the same time the back end separates strictly: a university's administration sees its day-to-day business, only the operator sees operation, costs and usage.
How it works#
Click pathAdministrationOverview
- 1Open “Administration” (address /admin). Below the main navigation is the bar “Platform admin” with all administration pages; it can be scrolled sideways.
- 2The home page shows tiles: tenants, cost dashboard, watchdog, audit evidence bundles, tools, feature catalogue, abuse monitoring, quality reports and diagnostics — each only if the page exists on this installation. Every tile describes the page it opens: “Tools” the overview with counters, “Feature catalogue” the switches per tenant, “Diagnostics” the speech recognition check, unlocking and the live status (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1 The administration's tiles, each with one sentence about the page it opens. - 3At the top right two emergency buttons: “Check peer voices” (checks the assigned voice for every fellow-learner name) and “Reset audio budget” (in case the sound cuts out during a demonstration).
- 4Open “Tools”: cards in three groups — compliance & quality (proctoring, quality reports, content quality), users & reach (costs) and transparency (the public quality figures) — with the number of open items; highlighted in yellow what needs attention.
- 5At the bottom of the home page: “What does NOT happen here?” — a company's employees, invitations and training rate run via the HR cockpit.
Settings and switches#
No switch of its own in the feature catalogue — the feature belongs to its surroundings.
- Menu items of switched-off features disappear from the bar (e.g. students, matching, document audit, controlling, statistics, support, finances, workshop credits).
- Tiles and tool cards only appear for pages that exist on this installation — on a customer instance the provider's surfaces are missing.
The administration's bar#
- Day-to-day university business: applications, students, transcript, matching, document audit, statistics, support
- Rights and accounts: permissions, accounts & roles, IT administration, test students
- Business: controlling, enquiries, course packages, seats, modules & prices, booked modules, usage, finances, costs
- Quality and evidence: watchdog, quality reports, audit evidence, deletion, audit log, errata, proctoring
- Tools: tools, feature flags, abuse, access codes, pronunciation, learning workshop, workshop credits
- Assignment of administration surfaces
- At the end, depending on the role: control centre, university sign-in (SSO), data protection, third-party content, API keys, webhooks, regulatory watchdog, launch health, voucher health, my courses
Two levels — the shell and the page#
The shell of all administration pages lets administration and operator in and then asks the permission matrix whether the account's university function may open this surface. Every page then checks its permission itself: operations pages (costs, control centre, controlling, tools …) require the operator, day-to-day pages (applications, students, transcript, badges, surveys, doctorate, fact check) admit the administration.
Whoever is not allowed something lands on the dashboard with a notice — not on an error page.
Who may do what#
- Home page and tools: only the operator.
- Administration and operator see the bar; which page opens is decided by the page. The ten items at the end only appear if the role may open the page.
- “Reset audio budget” only resets your own budget.
Tips#
- Control centre, university sign-in (SSO), data protection, third-party content, API keys, webhooks, regulatory watchdog, launch health, voucher health and “My courses” are at the end of the bar — each only for roles that may also open the page.
- The menu item “Watchdog” leads to content quality; source monitoring itself is under /admin/watchdog.
- “Learning workshop” in the bar leads into the course workshop.
Related features#
- Feature catalogue: switch every feature per tenantEvery feature of the platform can be switched on and off for all customers or for a single customer — off means: not there, not just greyed out.
- Accounts, roles & permissionsCreate real administration accounts and define in a matrix which university function may open which surface — with a visible difference between default and deliberate decision.
- Assignment of administration surfacesWho owns which administration page — the customer or the provider? With a reason, with the gap and with entries without a page.
- Launch health and diagnosticsA checklist of whether the installation is ready to launch — red blockers, yellow warnings, a real test of email delivery — and the diagnostics page with tools and live status.
