Why#

Whoever is looking for a feature simply asks: “Where can I find information about the editor?” Maike names the entry and the section, says “One moment, I'll open it for you” — and the page jumps there. Her knowledge is the handbook; what is not in it, she does not promise.

How it works#

  1. 1Maike floats in the handbook and on the website's home page as a round bubble; she can be dragged anywhere with mouse or finger.
  2. 2Tap Maike — she starts listening immediately. The very first time she asks in one sentence whether she may listen and offers the tour. Simply speak; after a short pause she sends the question herself.
  3. 3The ring around her picture pulses orange while she is listening and green while she is speaking. Her answer appears as a short subtitle next to her.
  4. 4The round button on the bubble is pause while she is speaking, afterwards play: continue, again or — right at the beginning — the tour.
  5. 5If a section fits, Maike flies next to it: the page scrolls there, the rest of the page recedes briefly, a fine line of light runs around the section, and the matching sentences are highlighted briefly. Esc cancels everything.
  6. 6The tour (compass button or say “Tour”) leads across the page in a few stations; play/pause controls it.

Settings and switches#

  • Off: no bubble in the handbook and on the home page, Maike does not answer.
  • The voice is Maike's own; if it is not available, Maike answers only as text — never with someone else's voice.

Where Maike gets her knowledge#

For every question Maike searches for the most fitting entries of this handbook — via title, short text, steps, in-depth sections and other words for the same thing — and answers only from them. She takes prices and packages from the website's public offering. She answers in the language of the page; on pages whose language the handbook does not yet cover, her source is the English version.

Protected in-depth details from “Technology & Security” are never a source for Maike. If a feature is planned or in progress according to the handbook, she says so.

“One moment, I'll open it for you”#

Maike can only open sections that the search has really found — inventing a section is impossible. For this the page switches to the entry if necessary and jumps to the section.

Microphone, consent and limits — who may do what#

  • The microphone only opens after your one-time consent and only while Maike is listening; speech recognition runs in the EU.
  • Anyone may ask Maike, without signing in; daily limits apply per connection.
  • Maike is a synthetic AI figure and is labelled as such.

Tips#

  • The browser remembers the position of the bubble; after an answer Maike stays next to the section until you drag her or ask again.
  • Without a microphone: with the keyboard you reach “Type instead of speaking” — Enter listens, the space bar is play/pause, Esc ends.
  • With reduced motion (system setting) Maike does not fly but jumps; the page jumps without dimming and line of light, the sentences stay highlighted.
  • Maike does not answer questions about a particular university or a degree programme — she is the platform's concierge.
